Fully funded by the Greenbank RSL, the Blue EDGE program commenced at the beginning of term three following last year’s success. There are two training sessions per week conducted on a Monday and a Wednesday. Each session at Park Ridge includes a 30 to 45 minute physical activity with a personal trainer, followed by a guest speaker or a life skill lesson, and wrapped up with a tasty afternoon snack.

The program is being managed at the school by Krisanthi Madden, Park Ridge State High School Youth Support Coordinator.

Thank you to the four Police officers from Browns Plains Police Station that are taking an active role in the program which is an excellent opportunity to engage with the students in a friendly atmosphere. Those officers are:

  • Senior Sergeant Michael Leafe;
  • Sergeant Nick Edwards;
  • Senior Constable Heather Wooderry; and
  • Constable Damien Jones.

Blue EDGE (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) is an 8 week program of physical training designed to extend a young person’s mind and physical capability. The program also includes career education, motivational speakers and mentoring with a view to having youth actualise their potential.

Program outcomes include the development of personal relationships and building of rapport between Police, QBLAI Volunteers, participants and their families.

The intention of the program is to grow and develop the skills and attitudes young people need to take part in society, now and in the future. We believe that interacting with young people will encourage participants to be receptive to good guidance and have respect and trust in the police as they mature.

We believe that the interaction between young people, the Police and Blue Light is making a positive and sustainable difference in people’s lives.
